Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect on the first visit?
Before any work is done, you and your family will be introduced to our team. Depending on the need, diagnostic x-rays may be taken to determine your dental condition. The dental hygienist will then clean your teeth to remove any plaque buildup. After the cleaning, Dr. Branscum will examine all surfaces of the teeth and check your gum line for recession. She will then discuss with you the results of the examination and any treatment recommendations. Additional services will be scheduled for a later date.
Why is visiting the dentist so important?
Visiting the dentist regularly will keep your teeth and mouth healthy along with your entire body. Professional dental care helps prevent not only tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath, but other diseases found throughout the body. Gum disease has been linked to increased risk for heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, certain types of cancer, and other serious diseases.
How often should I see the dentist?
Children, teens, and adults should see the dentist every six months for their regular checkup. If we determine that you are at a greater risk for oral cancer or gum disease we may advise that you come see us more than twice a year. Dr. Branscum can help you determine how often you should schedule your visits.
